The Frank Withey Memorial Scholarship Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, and educational purposes; more specifically, to assist artists and art/music related programs and events in their educational, professional, and programmatic development and advancement, and to raise the appreciation for the arts in our community.
In the beginning, this Foundation will endeavor to raise funds to be given in scholarships to high school seniors who plan to continue their full time music education at the college and university level.
Recipients will be required to show acceptance into a college or university, with the intent to major in music. As the foundation grows, it is hoped to provide scholarships in the Fine Arts, primarily Painting and Sculpture, to high school seniors attending classes at the college and university level, with the intent to major in painting and/or sculpture.

由Frank Withey紀念獎學金基金會大力贊助，邀請中國民族吹管樂演奏家郭雅志與波士頓地區中國傳統藝術界知名人士二胡演奏家高鴻微、古箏演奏家翁慧、古典薩克斯管演奏家尹沛以及賦有音樂才華的青少年同台演出，屆時參加協助演出的還有Chagall表演藝術協會。

郭雅志，1966年生於山西榆次，9歲開始學習法國號，14歲考入山西晉中藝術學校， 20嵗進入中央音樂學院民樂系，師從陳家齊教授及嗩吶大師胡海泉先生。

1993年，發明了“嗩吶活芯”，榮獲國家文化部頒發的科技進步二等獎。其發明現已被世界各地中國民族樂團所使用，成為新一代嗩吶演奏的重大突破。

郭氏曾任香港中樂團嗩吶首席10年有餘。現為香港中樂團特約獨奏音樂家、 香港嗩吶協會會長；香港演藝學院及香港中文大學嗩吶管子教授及碩士導師，香港藝術發展局音樂評審員。

過去20年郭氏於世界各地舉行多場國際性音樂會，與其合作過的樂團包括：中央音樂學院青年民族樂團、北京交響樂團、上海交響樂團、 上海歌劇院交響樂團、山西省交響樂團、中國廣播民族樂團、台灣國家國樂團，瑞士Orchestre de la Suisse Romande、韓國大田廣域管弦樂團、香港管弦樂團、比利時Flanders Symphony Orchestra、 法國熱拉爾蒂納爵士樂團、馬來西亞華樂團、澳門中樂團、新加坡華樂團等。

The poetry of Kathleen Spivack and Diana Norma is spun into music with bassett hornist/bansuri flutist/Soundpainter Etienne Rolin, guitarist/Soundpainter Brian Abbott, saxophonist/Soundpainter Dennis Shafer, and poet/Soundpainter Diana Norma.  The HOWL Chamber Quartet began its adventures in Boston’s Lizard Lounge, as Rolin (Bordeaux, France) encountered this spoken word scene using the poetry of Allen Ginsburg.  Now reunited for the first time since October 2010, HOWL will explore new sounds offered by classical Indian music, and new poetry/music.

Soundpainting Workshop

Beginners Soundpainting Workshop

Dennis Shafer and Diana Norma bring Soundpainting to 4^th through 7^th graders and their parents at Wellesley Middle School's Auditorium.' These students learn the core Soundpainting gestures in 30 minutes then finish with a 10 minute Soundpainting performance with no preparation or precomposed music!' Poetry is used to engage the audience and parents, and to help the students to apply meaningful musical interpretation to a text.

Concord Band Celebrates French Music and the Saxophone

Dennis Shafer will join the Concord Band to perform an arrangement of Claude Debussy's The Girl With the Flaxen Hair. He is a member and co-founder of the Back Bay Saxophone Quartet, who will be the Concord Band's guest ensemble for the upcoming concert. The other members of this innovative and dynamic quartet are Jennifer Bill, Lauren Nicholas, and John Knasas. Together with the band, they will perform composer Bill Holcombe's piece Stephen Foster Revisited, which is a collection of familiar Foster tunes. The program will also include works by French and American composers, including Milhaud, Berlioz, Dukas, and Ives.

The Concord Band, founded in 1959, is one of the leading community concert bands in the United States. It is well known for its innovative programming and the exceptional quality of its commissioned pieces. It presents both formal and Pops concerts throughout the year. Thousands attend its summer concerts each year at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts.
